This week we’re showing some love to the black sesame seed - the un-hulled yin to the white sesame seeds’ yang. A sprinkle of sesame adds a little crunch – and a LOT of nutrition – to just about anything. Bursting with body-loving goodness like protein, fiber, healthy fats, copper, manganese, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, iron, zinc, molybdenum, selenium, and thiamin, these black beauties help to reduce inflammation, support a healthy heart and lungs, protect against cancer and osteoporosis, support detoxification by nourishing the liver and kidneys, and even prevent characteristics of aging like gray hair, hearing loss and memory loss.
Call us crazy, but we decided to introduce our new crush to our long-term love interest, cashews – the base for all of our chia power potions – to create a quick and easy, crispy crunchy, Asian-inspired green bean sauté.
Open Sesame Green Beans with Cashews
Add coconut oil to a pan on low-medium heat until it liquefies. Toss in cashews. Wait a few minutes before adding the green beans (you can use this time to clean/prep them) and black sesame seeds. Sauté for about 20 minutes, then voila! You can finish off with a sprinkle of Himalayan salt if desired.
