This #FOODCRUSHFRIDAY is all about golden berries – because what’s not to love about a tasty tart-yet-sweet burst of protein, fiber, antioxidants, bioflavonoids, phosphorous, and vitamins A and C? These delicious as they are nutritious berries promote fluid balance, help maintain normal blood sugar levels, reduce inflammation, and support detoxification by protecting the liver and kidneys. Intoxicatingly tart, and pretty damn sexy for a dried up fruit, these little morsels of golden fun are some of our favorite wellness addictions.
We whipped up a golden berry enhanced version of our classic cashew milk, which – although perfect on its own! – also serves as a beautiful canvas for some amped up potable alchemy. In addition to (obviously!) golden berries, this potion also features Maca, an adaptogenic root that is said to increase energy, have mood-balancing powers, protect the adrenal system, and – last but not least – to be a potent aphrodisiac.
Frisky Golden Maca Energy Milk
- 1 cup raw cashews, soaked and rinsed (try to soak cashews for a few hours to enhance digestibility and absorption – if you just can’t wait, no problem, just rinse them!)
- 4 cups water
- 4 dates
- 20 dried golden berries
- 1 tbsp maca
- ½ teaspoon coconut oil
- Pinch of Himalayan salt
- 1 vanilla bean or 1 tsp vanilla extract
Blend to desired consistency and enjoy!
Note: The golden berries may not completely blend in, but we love the textural component, and the yummy tartness when we come across a morsel :)
